The Church of Jesus Christ Is Helping Alleviate Global Malnutrition

The Church’s ongoing efforts include a combined US$44 million to help mothers and children in 30 countries
As the world continues to face an unprecedented hunger crisis, more than 3 million children will die this year from malnutrition. And half of all children globally suffer from essential vitamin and mineral deficiencies. These deficits stunt the growth and potential of the next generation.“No humanitarian effort is more foundational to Christ’s Church than feeding the hungry,” said Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson. “We are grateful to have the means to collaborate with wonderful organizations and provide relief to children and young mothers in dire need. Maui Wildfires: Community Comes Together as Evacuations and Assessment Begin

Five Latter-day Saints have died in the fires
The Hawaii National Guard is involved in the recovery process and is assessing damage throughout the island.Latter-day Saints in Maui are assisting charitable organizations in the recovery. Two meetinghouses in the Kahului and Kahului West Stakes are serving as temporary shelters with water, hot meals and other necessities — all available for anyone, regardless of religious affiliation. Elder Ulisses Soares Speaks at Second Brazilian Symposium on Religious Liberty

Freedom and Responsibility Meet: How Religion Cultivates the Human Good

 

For the second time in as many years, Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was a featured speaker at the Brazilian Symposium on Religious Liberty, held this year in Brasília, the federal capital.

The theme of this year’s symposium was Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers: The Role of Religious Freedom in Building a Free, Just and Mutually Supportive Society. Elder Soares shared a panel with representatives of the Catholic Church, the Baháʼí faith and Afro-Brazilian communities. (Read the rest of the articles here)
