The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a new phase for temple reopening. Phase 2-B allows for a temple baptistry to open for small groups — particularly for members with a limited-use temple recommend.
“We are grateful for this opportunity for more members to participate in temple ordinances,” said President Russell M. Nelson.
Beginning December 7, 2020, two temples will begin Phase 1 of reopening, one temple will begin Phase 2 and five temples will move from Phase 2 to Phase 1. By that day, 29 of the Church’s 168 operating temples will be in Phase 1 and 115 will be in Phase 2.
A small group of Latter-day Saints gathered in the north-central Utah community of Orem on Saturday, September 5, 2020, for the groundbreaking of the Orem Utah Temple.
The four phases of opening are designed to reduce risk, accommodate the demand and capacity of the temple, and observe any relevant health restrictions in the temple district:
In a new Church News video, President Russell M. Nelson describes the difficult decision to temporarily close the temples due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
